The Neurodevelopmental Approach is an individualized method based on neuroplasticity that helps children with various developmental challenges and needs for additional support reach their full potential.
This approach is based on the belief that the brain can change and develop when it receives the right stimulation with the right frequency, intensity and duration. Rather than managing symptoms, the focus is on stimulating neurological development by working on the root causes of deficits and difficulties.
Basic principles of the Neurodevelopmental Approach
Neuroplasticity – the brain’s ability to change
The brain is flexible and can be reorganized through targeted, frequent and appropriate stimulation.
Hierarchical model of development
Neurological functions develop in stages – for example: sensory processing → motor skills → cognition. The Neurodevelopmental Approach works on neurological organization from the ground up. The brain develops in a certain sequence. Like when we build a house, we first lay the foundation, and then everything else. Each stage of this development is important and should not be missed. Missed or incomplete stages create difficulties in the higher levels and higher functions of the brain.
Holistic approach
The neurological approach seeks the cause of the problem that the child has and covers all areas of development. Therefore, it examines how he perceives and processes information through all his senses – vision, touch, sound, etc. All this is necessary for the child to learn to speak, build emotional self-control and subsequently proceed to the roof of the house – reading and mathematics.
Frequency, intensity and duration of activities
Effective development requires regular, intensive and long-term work that resembles the natural process of brain maturation.
Individualized assessments and programs
Assessments are conducted by certified American specialists with the help of Bulgarian trained therapists. After the assessment, an individual program is prepared with a complex of exercises and stimulations. Each plan is unique and tailored to the child’s specific profile, needs and environment.
Parents – active participants in therapy
We believe that when the parent is part of the process, real progress is possible, because new steps begin in the family and it is the parents who have a fundamental role in the development of their child. Therefore, we strive to work in cooperation with them and find the best approach, program and learning environment for their child. After preparing the individual program, parents are trained on how to apply it daily at home.
Monitoring and adaptation
Progress is constantly monitored and the programs are adapted according to the results and observations at certain intervals. During the program, Bulgarian trained specialists consult and help parents in implementing the program.
Applicable to various conditions and ages
The neurological approach is successfully used in autism, ADHD – attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Down syndrome and other genetic abnormalities, cerebral palsy, generalized developmental disorders, learning disabilities, etc. It is also suitable for both early and late intervention. It is effective in young children, teenagers, and adults alike, thanks to the brain’s ability to change throughout life.
Sustainable Results
Unlike behavioral or compensatory models, this approach aims to improve or restore basic neurological functions. Because it works on basic neurological levels, the results are longer-lasting and cover different areas of functional development.
Practical and Functional Goals
The goal is not just to learn skills, but to achieve functional independence and a better quality of life.
